Bridson-Jones
Since I
was a child I always loved books and reading. I spent a
lot of time on my own, due to being a sickly child. This
gave me the opportunity to read and also to write.
Scribbling as a child was second-nature, but as I grew
into adulthood, I seemed to lose the knack.
However, I never lost the will to write, and started
again with verses, the occasional short story and later
articles.
I worked in the WRNS when I left school, and since then
have had many jobs: foreign exchange cashier for Thomas
Cook, clerical work of various types, I have been a guest
house proprietor, and medical receptionist, among other
things. I worked for many years in the NHS, finally
taking early retirement in 2003 when my husband Mike and
I went to live in Spain. Sadly this adventure didnt
work out and we returned to England at the end of 2005.
During most of my working life, writing had to take a
back seat, but I did a couple of correspondence courses,
and a course at a local college. During these years I had
articles published in The Lady, This England,
Writers Forum, Your Dog, and a story published in
Yours Fiction Special. Also quite a lot of poems,
articles and stories were published in small press
magazines.
I am now completely retired from paid employment, and
still struggling to become a writer! This year so far my
project has been to self-publish a small collection of my
verses with the help of Lulu.com.
This wont lead me to being invited to take up the
position of Poet Laureate, but I did it mainly for my own
satisfaction, for family and friends and of course hoping
that members of the general public will read the previews
and decide to buy it!
My experiences over the years should provide me with
plenty of ideas for writing, so I don't have any excuse
for not achieving greater things.
